Four critical in George collision

Four people sustained critical injuries while six others sustained moderate injuries when their vehicle overturned on the N9, fifteen kilometres outside of Uniondale in the Western Cape.

A light motor vehicle came to rest in the middle of the road after it overturned multiple times. One occupant, a female in her 30s, was trapped inside the vehicle while the remaining patients were spread around the scene. It is believed that some of the occupants were ejected from the vehicle when it overturned.

ER24 paramedics began their treatment of the critically injured, finding that they had sustained multiple fractures. Provincial services used the jaws-of-life to free the trapped lady.

Once freed, all four of the critically injured were transported under advanced life support supervision to Mediclinic George and George Provincial Hospital.

The occupants that sustained moderate injuries were transported to various hospitals in the area.

The cause of the collision is not yet known and local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
