One person died while another sustained serious injury in a head-on collision on the R102 in Umtentweni on the Natal south coast late last night. Exact detail to the cause of the accident is still speculative and will remain a subject for police investigation.
Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the roadway severely obstructed with accident debris and the twisted frames of the vehicles, one of the occupants was ejected from the vehicle and was found on the roadway with life threatening injuries, the other patient was found at the side of the road with serious injuries.
Paramedics worked fervently to resuscitate the critically wounded man for some time, however despite all their efforts he died at the scene due to the extensive injury that he sustained. After the seriously injured man was stabilised at the scene paramedics transported him to a local hospital for the care that he required. Reports from the scene indicate that a third person left the scene before the arrival of the emergency services.
