Netcare 911 paramedics and other services responded to an accident on Heidelberg Road and Voortrekker Road in Southcrest, Alberton this morning after 08h30.
Upon their arrival on scene, they found that a heavy goods vehicle had ploughed through a service station and came to a standstill against a wall. During the process the heavy goods vehicle also collided with another motor vehicle.
The driver of heavy goods vehicle were found to have sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital after receiving treatment on scene.
The driver of the motor vehicle was fortunate to have escaped with only minor injuries.
Exact detail to the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain the subject of a police investigation.
