Six suspects arrested and copper estimated to R1.4 million recovered in Hurcules, Pretoria

On 09 June 2014 a case of copper theft was registered following a robbery at factory in Elsburg, Johannesburg. It is alleged that on Monday night a group of suspects held up a security guard at gunpoint, tied him up and loaded tons of copper on their truck.

On Wednesday, 11 June 2014 an investigation led by police and company’s private investigators followed information which led the team to a factory in Hercules. On arrival police kept a close eye while the suspects were in the factory allegedly negotiating the sale of the copper.

The suspects were cornered and arrested. During the arrest police recovered the stolen copper, licensed firearm and four vehicles alleged to have been used to ferry the stolen goods. Further information led the investigating team to Johannesburg, De Deur, where the seventh suspect was arrested. Investigation continues as police suspect that the recovery and arrests of the suspects can lead to the arrest of a bigger syndicate operation across Gauteng.
