Netcare 911 paramedics and other services responded to an accident on the N1 just past the Brandfort tollgate near Bloemfontein.
Upon their arrival on scene they found that a two year old girl was in a critical condition after a motor vehicle had overturned.
The injured girl was treated on scene before she was transported to hospital for further medical care.
Exact detail to the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain the subject of a police investigation.
