Netcare 911 paramedics and other services responded to accident on the R40 outside Witriver towards Hazyview this evening at around 18h45.
Upon their arrival on scene they found that a heavy goods vehicle and bus had collided head-on and then a motor vehicle proceeded to collide with the bus. All three vehicles burst into flames after impact.
Forty people sustained injuries and ten people tragically lost their lives.
All the injured people were treated on scene before they were transported to hospital for further medical care.
The road has been closed off and traffic is severely affected.
Exact detail to the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain the subject of a police investigation.
