Woman killed in Pietermaritzburg collision

A woman, believed to be in her 40’s, was killed this morning when she was ejected during a collision on Church Street in Pietermaritzburg.

It is understood that the woman and a man was stationary at a traffic light when a truck collided with them from behind and pushed them over a nearby Armco barrier into a fence.

When paramedics arrived on the scene they found the woman several meters away from the vehicle. Sadly paramedics could not do anything for her and she was declared dead on the scene. The driver of the vehicle, a man believed to be in his 40’s, sustained moderate injuries. He was treated on the scene before being transported to Northdale Hospital for further treatment.

A passenger in the truck was found with minor injuries and later transported to Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg. The driver of the truck was not injured in the incident.

The incident was handed over to the local authorities for investigation.
