10 Killed in collision between tanker and bakkie on N1 South of Bloemfontein


Ten people have been killed this morning when a truck and a bakkie collided on the N1 approximately 40 kilometres outside of Bloemfontein.

Shortly before 0600 paramedics and rescue services arrived on the scene where they found debris and people scattered across the highway. It is understood that the bakkie had fourteen occupants in it at the time of the collision.

Six adults were found with multiple fatal injuries as well as three children and one baby, believed to be approximately five months old.

Three people, including one child survived this horrific incident and were rushed off to a nearby hospital for further medical care. All of them are in a critical condition.

The exact cause of the collision is not yet known. The N1 highway has been closed for several hours while investigators attended the scene.
