Sixteen people were injured after a taxi collided into the side of a truck at the intersection of Richmond Road and the M13 on ramp this evening. Reports from the scene indicate that the taxi came from the M13 and collided with a truck at the Richmond Road intersection. Exact detail to the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain a subject for police investigation and comment.
Netcare 911 paramedics and their rescue unit arrived at the scene and found some of the injured still trapped in the twisted frame of the vehicle. While the rescue officer used the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver, paramedics worked tirelessly to stabilise the injured at the scene.
After triaging it was found that seven people sustained serious injuries while nine others escaped with minor injuries. Paramedics treated the injured and then transported them to various hospitals for the care that they required.
