Ford and Partners Collect 8 Ton of Pet Food for Charities

PRETORIA, South Africa, 25 July 2014 – In July, Ford South Africa partnered with Complete Pet Food and the World of Dogs and Cats (WODAC) to collect over 8 ton of pet food for animal charities across the country.

Driven by Ford dealers in Gauteng, the initiative sought to motivate local communities to make pet food donations at their local Dealership, and the response was overwhelming.

“We didn’t expect the overwhelming public support we received,” said Ford South Africa’s Marketing Manager, Gavin Golightly. “Although we didn’t break the Guinness Book of World Records for most pet food collected, we vastly exceeded the amount we collected last year.”

In 2013, at the time of the World of Dogs and Cats Exhibition, Ford collected 1 ton worth of pet food from visitors to its stand. “By partnering with Complete and WODAC this year, we managed to not only collect eight times more food, but also extend the number of beneficiaries from six to 18,” said Golightly.

The pet food was delivered to charities selected by Complete in a series of Ford Ranger Double Cab bakkies, which were equipped with trailers, on 21 July.

“This was the second year we were involved with the WODAC Exhibition, and also the second year we decided to give back to some of the amazing animal shelters in our country,” concluded Golightly. “We look forward to seeing how we can exceed our own expectations again next year.”
