Four suspects arrested for murder and attempted murder of man in car at mine outside Rustenburg

The decisive action against crime by members involved in the Platinum Belt Operation has resulted in the arrest of four suspects for murder and attempted murder which took place in Kroondal outside Rustenburg on Wednesday, 23 July 2014.

It is alleged that several shots were fired at a 47-year-old man, as well as the woman (29) who was accompanying him, just after they got into a car. The man died on the scene while the woman was taken to hospital where she was admitted with serious injuries.

The suspects were arrested a few minutes later near Tharisa mine. The arrest came after police were informed and given the description of the car the suspects were using. Upon arrest, the suspects were found in possession of two unlicensed firearms.

An investigation into the matter continues and the motive for the incident is presently unknown.

The Platinum Belt Operation was launched on 16 June 2014 with the strategic objective of stabilising the violence in the area.
