Nearly 100 Continental Tyres employees Down Tools making a difference on Nelson Mandela Day

–       67 Minutes of good clean fun

–       Honouring the legacy of Mandela

On 18 July nearly 100 Continental Tyres South Africa (CTSA) staff downed tools for 67 minutes and did their bit to not only remember an icon, but to promote a legacy. The staff of CTSA took Nelson Mandela’s words literally when he said “it is in your hands now” and took to the streets and creek outside the CTSA factory along the N2 to clean up the waste filled area.

Not deterred by Port Elizabeth’s gusting winds the team were in good spirits as they worked their way along the 2km stretch of road adjacent to the freeway with the aim of the day being to remove as much litter and beautify the verges along Eveready road.

“It was inspiring to see the team at work and also to hear the cheers and hoots of passing motorists. We can only hope our actions have encouraged any number of the passers-by to also do their bit for the community,” said Managing Director Dieter Horni who himself was part of the clean-up crew.

The international Nelson Mandela Day 67 minute challenge embodies a number of philosophies mirrored in CTSA’s core values. Alongside these is the respect for others and the environment.  “Continental Tyre SA is committed to protect the environment by reducing, reusing and recycling waste throughout the production process and today gave us the opportunity to take this commitment into our immediate community.” concludes Horni.
