Policeman recovering well after armed robbery and shooting at Engen Garage in Hillcrest Drive

Within a few weeks Warrant Officer Killian Steyn of the East London K9 unit and his crime-fighting K9 Samurai will resume with their passion – sweeping criminals away from society. Warrant Officer Steyn he was involved in a deadly shootout with an armed robber who shattered the radius of his left arm.

An armed robbery took place at the Engen Garage in Hillcrest Drive, Beacon Bay in East London an robbers fled the scene. A call came through to the police, Warrant Officer Steyn and Samurai responded. A shoot-out ensued between teo robbers and Warrant Officer Steyn. Steyn was shot in the heart, twice below the heart and in the stomach.

Fortunately he was wearing a bullet-proof vest. However, the suspect fired another shot which ripped into his left forearm and shattered his radius, consequently fell down. “To be honest I was not even thinking about the pain, all I wanted to do was to stop this man. He was shooting everywhere and there were children in the vicinity,” said Warrant Officer Steyn.

He got up changed the magazine of his gun, approached the suspect and fatally shot him on his chest and stomach. “God gave me the strength to get up and to continue shooting. I was just thinking of the kids, I just thought to myself they don’t deserve to die. I didn’t want any parent to bury their child. I am a parent, I have a 16 and a seven-year-old, I personally wouldn’t want to go through that pain. I didn’t allow myself to think of the pain in my arm, it’s only when I fatally shot the suspect that I started to feel my own pain,” said Steyn.
