Three suspects arrested in connection with an armed robbery of cigarette delivery van in Mitchell’s Plain

This morning (2014-07-08) at 07:45 an armed robbery occurred at a shop in Kimberley Way, Portland where a cigarette delivery van was robbed by unknown suspects who drove off in a vehicle. It is alleged that the suspects off loaded the boxes of cigarettes in a nearby street into a Toyota Quantum where they were spotted by security personnel. A high speed chase ensued between the security guards and the suspects.

A shoot out occurred between the robbers and security guards near Kapteinsklip station where one of the suspects, a 31 year old man was wounded in his right leg and he was arrested. The other three suspects fled the scene on foot towards Mnandi Beach, Rocklands. The  wounded suspect was treated at the scene and taken to hospital.

An integrated search operation was launched immediately between Mitchell’s Plain SAPS, Western Cape Flying Squad, Air Wing and Cape Town Dog Unit members which led to two suspects being arrested near Mnandi Beach. Two 9 mm pistols and several rounds of live ammunition were recovered.

All three suspects aged between 26 and 31 years are due to appear in the Mitchell’s Plain magistrate Court on charges on the related charges once they have been charged.
