City of Cape Town to unveil South Africa’s first ‘green’ taxi rank

Taxi rank

The City’s Mayoral Committee Member: Transport for Cape Town, Councillor Brett Herron, will take the media on a tour of the first taxi rank in the country to be regarded as a ‘green’ building from its very foundation to the rooftop.

The Wallacedene taxi rank sets the benchmark for future public transport facilities in the country and has since 1 August 2014 only needed one hour’s worth of electricity from Eskom. This facility generates its own electricity, is equipped with batteries to store reserve solar energy, and uses clever architectural design for the harvesting of rainwater.

Date: Monday, 25 August 2014
Time: 10h30
Venue: Wallacedene public transport facility, Corner of La Boheme Avenue and Bhunga Street, Kraaifontein

All media is welcome to attend.
