Man critical, 16 injured as bakkie collide with ambulance and taxi on the N2 in Somerset West

A man in his 30s was critically injured while sixteen others sustained minor injuries this morning after a bakkie collided with an ambulance and taxi on the N2 in Somerset West, Western Cape.

After responding through heavy morning traffic, ER24 paramedics arrived on scene and found the three vehicles blocking the N2 intersection.

Seventeen occupants from the taxi and bakkie sat on the roadside, one of them in a critical condition.

Paramedics performed advanced life support to the critically injured patient before he was transported by a medical helicopter to Tygerburg Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

The remaining patients were treated for their injuries and transported to local hospitals for further observations.

The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
