Platinum Belt Operation’s multi-disciplinary approach and decisive action against crime reaped results when SAPS members deployed in the operation and Provincial traffic members arrested four suspects.

The suspects with ages ranging between 23 and 43 were arrested for illegal possession of dagga and possession of a stolen vehicle on the R24 near Olifantsnek on Thursday, 14 August 2014.  The members were conducting a routine stop and search operation when they stopped a Toyota Conquest of which the driver failed to produce a driving licence.  It was discovered during the circulation that the car was reported stolen in Daveyton, Gauteng Province.

Upon searching the car, 13 bags of dagga with an estimated street value of R50-000 were found in the boot of the vehicle. The four suspects were arrested and are due to appear in Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court soon.

In Mogwase, police arrested a 36-year-old man for possession and manufacturing of counterfeit notes on Thursday, 14 August 2014.  It is alleged that the suspect had an argument with a friend about R100.00 and American dollars fake notes when a concerned citizen heard their conversation and alerted the police.  The suspect was found with 3 x R100.00 notes, one US dollar note, black powder and papers which were allegedly used to create counterfeits.

Platinum Belt Operation began on 16 June 2014 with the strategic objective of stabilisation and normalisation of the area, and has so far nabbed more than 500 suspects for various offences.
