Three suspected rhino poachers from Mozambique arrested inside a private farm in Gravellotte

Three suspected rhino poachers from Mozambique aged between16, 47 and 44 were arrested inside a private farm in Gravellotte early Friday morning. 

The three were lying in wait to shoot and dehorn a rhino.  Their plans were foiled after police surprised them and were arrested on the spot.  The three were found in possession of an unlicensed 3.75 rifle with ammunition. 

The three suspects, a 16 year old minor, Phineas Baloyi (47) and Phillip Xihlangu (44) appeared briefly at the at the local magistrates’ court on charges of illegal poaching and possession of an unlicensed firearm. 

The three are expected to appear again this coming Friday, 15 August 2014.
