Two trapped in Pretoria bus and taxi collision

A collision between a taxi and a bus in Mayville, Pretoria, left ten people injured this morning.

Shortly after 0900 paramedics from ER24 arrived on the corners of Fred Nicolson and Paul Kruger Streets where they found the mangled taxi.

The driver and front passenger in the taxi sustained serious injuries and had to be freed with Jaws of Life from the wreckage. Paramedics tried to stabilise both of the trapped victims while fire and rescue workers worked for almost forty minutes to free them. The trapped passenger sustained severe facial injuries and the driver sustained severe fractures.

Eight other occupants from the taxi were found outside of the vehicle with minor to moderate injuries. All of them were treated on the scene before being transported through to hospital.

It is understood that the taxi collided into the side of the bus while traveling on Paul Kruger Street. No one was injured in the bus.

The injured were transported to Steve Biko Hospital for further treatment.

The exact cause of the collision is not yet known.
