Crime Prevention Operations in KZN reveal magnitude of the threat of crime

Members of the SAPS in the Province deployed on Crime Prevention Operations arrested over 2000 criminals during last week. The aim of the operations was to recover illegal firearms, seize drugs and arrest wanted suspects in the KwaZulu-Natal province.

A total of 48 firearms and 205 rounds of ammunition were seized during the past week. 27 suspects were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms. A total of 2054 suspects were arrested for various crimes ranging from murder, attempted murder, rape, common robbery, carjacking, possession of drugs and other crimes. Dagga, dagga plants, cocaine, heroin and mandrax were also seized by police. The arrested suspects have appeared in various Magistrates Court in the province.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni hailed the successes achieved during these weekly operation as a great success and thanked the police officers for their crime-fighting efforts. “We have a mandate to fight crime and maintain safety and security in the province. We will continue to do so with the support of communities that want a make difference and we urge those that are aware of criminals with their communities to come forward,” she said.
