Honda Motor Southern Africa backs road safety initiative implemented by the Road Safety Foundation

Honda Motor Southern Africa (HSAF) is supporting a powerful road safety initiative implemented by the Road Safety Foundation. The new strategy is aimed at increasing road safety awareness and encouraging a positive change in attitude among road users.

The campaign sees corporates such as Honda partnering with the Road Safety Foundation to release and distribute a series of thought-provoking road safety-themed audio visuals. The Foundation hopes that the hard-hitting messages in these road safety clips will help to reduce the road accident tally in South Africa.

“A new AV clip will be released every second month, and will cover a variety of road safety topics and issues,” explains Philip Hull of the Road Safety Foundation. “We’re also recognising the passion and involvement of our various corporate partners in this programme by inviting them to introduce these AV clips,” he adds.

The participating corporates then distribute the road safety clips via email to their partner companies, associates and customer bases.

Hull says the initiative will assist the Foundation in its quest to distribute meaningful and thought-provoking road safety information to every home, classroom and office.

“Enormous changes within the law enforcement arena are required to achieve an acceptable level of effectiveness, but that’s not realistically achievable in the short term, which means that it’s up to every SA citizen to take personal responsibility for making our roads safer,” he added.

HSAF’s director of operations, Graham Eagle, says safety is a key focus point of all Honda’s research and development efforts.

“As such, we’re proud to be associated with this new initiative. Despite the significant, technology-driven improvements in safety, it’s the decisions of the road users that make the difference,” he added. “Let’s take up the challenge: let’s drive safely.”
