Teams of paramedics from KZN EMS and several private ambulance services responded to the Wartburg area near Pietermaritzburg, earlier this morning where there was a report a collision between two minibuses, on the road near the Bryns hill store on the road that goes to Bryns hill location..

Initial reports were that both vehicles were fully loaded with school children being transported to school and the department of health air ambulance was put in standby while the paramedics responded to scene.

When paramedics arrived on scene they discovered that just the one minibus had been carrying passengers and that both vehicles had overturned after the collision. Prior to the paramedics arrival two of the children, who appeared to be in a critical condition had already been transported privately from the accident scene. The paramedics treated another nine children for serious and minor injuries, which they had sustained during the accident. The drivers had only minor injuries and decided not to be transported to hospital after being assessed by the paramedics. The paramedics from the several ambulances services who had responded to the collision then transported the children to hospital for continued care.

The police, who were also on the scene of the accident, have started investigation the cause of the accident, which at this stage is not clear.
