Four killed, fourteen injured in multiple vehicle pile-up in Van Reenens Pass

Two separate incidents have left four people dead and fourteen injured on Van Reenens Pass this morning in KwaZulu Natal.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the first incident, they found that a truck had jack-knifed across the road, colliding with a number of other vehicles.

On assessment, paramedics discovered that seven people from the various vehicles had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

Paramedics treated the patients for their injuries and began transporting them to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

On route to hospital, ER24 paramedics discovered a secondary collision some distance away.

A large truck had apparently lost control and collided with several other vehicles.

On the second scene, paramedics discovered that four bodies lay in the middle of the road. Unfortunately all four patients had succumbed to their injuries.

Seven other patients from various vehicles had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

Extra medical resources were called in to assist in treating the injured on scene. Once treated, all the patients were transported to various hospitals for further treatment.

The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
