KZN R56 minibus rollover down embankment leaves two dead and seventeen injured

Two people have tragically lost their lives and seventeen people, some of which were children, were injured after a minibus overturned and landed down an embankment on the R67 between Ixopo and Richmond in Kwa-Zulu Natal this morning.

Netcare 911 paramedics and other services had to climb down the embankment to make their way to the vehicle were they found that a man was entrapped in the vehicle. Services had to make use of the Jaws of Life to extricate the injured man from the vehicle.

After assessment of all the injured patients, it was found that seventeen people sustained injuries ranging from moderate to serious.

All the injured patients were treated on scene and transported to hospital for further medical care.

Exact detail to the cause of the accident and preceding events are still unclear and will remain the subject of a police investigation.
