Police have arrested two suspects following a shoot -out and an unlicenced R5 rifle was recovered. The suspects will be charged with armed robbery, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm when they appear at the Kempton Park Magistrate court within 48 hours.

The suspects driving a GTI V W Golf were earlier involved in an armed robbery of a cigarette truck (BAT) at Glen Marais Mall where the driver of the truck was forced to drive up to Harderkol street at about 09:00 today. Boxes of cigarettes were loaded into a Quantum truck with unknown number of suspects. Both vehicles of the suspects then drove away. Police were alerted and given a description of both vehicles. Following the information, they chased Golf from Rabie Ridge until Old Pretoria Road where the suspects were involved in a shoot-out with a member of Gauteng Flying Squad.

As the shooting continued, suspects abandoned a Golf and tried to hijack another vehicle. In the process, a police chopper had already joined the chase and suspects also abandoned a hijacked vehicle and ran away on foot. It is where both of them were arrested.

No one was injured. It is only the police vehicle which was damaged on the left back passenger window and back window. Other suspects who were driving in a Quantum are still at large. Approximately R30 000 worth of cigarettes were stolen.
