Durban Flying Squad Narcotics Task Team arrests cable thieves

Yesterday evening, three suspects in their thirties were arrested for theft of copper cable by members of the Durban Flying Squad Narcotics Task Team who conducted an operation after they had received intelligence of stolen copper cables.

The members proceeded to Leo Avenue, Woodhurst, Chatsworth, where they found the suspects busy stripping copper cables on the premises. A further search of the premises resulted in the discovery of tons of copper cables stored in a garage.

Officials from the EThekwini Municipality were called out to the scene and positively identified the property as theirs and estimated value of the recovered copper cables at R1.8 million. The three suspects were then arrested and charged for theft of copper cables.

They will appear in the Chatsworth Magistrates Court soon.
