Festive Season High Density Crime Operation in Pietermaritzburg yields success

SAPS Pietermaritzburg and SAPS Mountain Rise embarked on a 12 hours Festive Season High Density Crime Operation, which commenced yesterday from 16:00 to the early hours of this morning 04:00. During the operation more than twenty seven suspects were arrested for various crimes including, rape, house robbery, possession of drugs, dealing in drugs, and possession of unlicensed firearm, drunken driving and other crimes. The arrests were made in the Mountain Rise policing area.

During the raid the following items were recovered by the police, a large quantity of dagga, heroin and a very large quantity of liquor that was seized from unlicensed liquor premises. One 9mm unlicensed firearm was also seized from a suspect. The recovered firearms will be taken to ballistics to ascertain if it was used in any commission of crime in the country. The total value of the recovered drugs is R100 0000. The arrested suspects will soon appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates’ Court.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded the members for their efforts made in the fight against crime. She also thanked the members of the community for the role played in giving information that resulted in several arrests.
