Mitchell’s Plain Police intensify the fight against gangsterism and drugs

The positive relationship between the Mitchell’s Plain Cluster and community structures such as the street committees and neighbourhood watches continues to yield successes as the police intensify the focus on gangsterism and drugs.

This past week police confiscated six firearms and various amounts of ammunition, some of these successes are reflected below:

Possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition:

On Tuesday evening (2014-11-18) at about 21:30 Lentegeur Crime Prevention Unit were doing a routine vehicle patrols when they spotted two suspicious looking men standing near a known drug house in Blombos Street, Lentegeur. The members approached them and they saw both suspects throwing firearms on the ground. The members arrested both men aged 25 and 36 and they confiscated two pistols and several rounds of ammunition.

Both suspects appeared on Friday (2014-11-21) in the Mitchell’s plain Magistrates’ Court on charges relating to possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition:

The following day (2014-11-19) at about 10:45 Mitchell’s Plain police received information about drugs and firearms being stored at a house in Bering Street, Rocklands. Upon the members’ arrival on the scene they saw the suspect standing in front of the house. The members searched the suspect and they found in his possession a CZ 7.65 pistol two live rounds. The suspect a 32 year old man was arrested.

The suspect appeared on Friday (2014-11-21) in the Mitchell’s plain Magistrates’ Court on charges relating to possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition:

On Thursday evening (2014-11-20) our members arrested a 27 year old man for possession of a prohibited firearm (serial number which has been removed) in Ventura Street, Rocklands. The members confiscated a CZ 7.65 pistol with two live rounds while doing a crime prevention patrol.

The suspect will appear on Monday (2014-11-24) in the Mitchell’s plain Magistrates’ Court on charges relating to possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

Crime Prevention Operations Conducted:

Eight tracing operations were conducted in Mitchell’s Plain Cluster which led to the arrest of 40 suspects for various crimes. During the past week 67 houses were searched for drugs, whereby 158 suspects were arrested. Drugs confiscated included 21 heroin units, 325 packets of tik, 271 mandrax tablets and 1 135 g of dagga.

The Mitchell’s Plain cluster police management want to thank all community structures of Mitchell’s Plain who joined the South African Police Service in combating crime, further we urge the community to remain vigilant and to contact their respective Sector Commanders and for those who have not yet joined our structures to join us by becoming part of their street committees in their respective streets.
