On Saturday 15 November 2014 at about 21:15 police arrested a 19-year-old male suspect following a motor vehicle accidents scene involving two vehicles that collided in Philindaba, Barkly West.
Police were on the accident scene busy taking statements from the drivers of the vehicles that collided when the suspect got into the state vehicle (which is a marked police van) and drove off.
The suspect was later arrested with the help of members from Tactical Response Team (TRT) on the Barkly Road near Riverton and the state vehicle was recovered.
He is expected to appear in the Barkly West Magistrates’ Court on Monday 2014-11-17 on a charge of theft of motor vehicle.
