SAPS Crime Intelligence and Hawks foil planned business robbery

In a joint operation in the early hours of this morning, the South African Police Service’s Crime Intelligence Trio Task Team and the Tactical Operational Management Section (TOMS) of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), the Hawks in Gauteng, foiled a planned business robbery at Mike’s Kitchen in Lambton Court, Germiston.

Acting on information, the team arrested five suspects aged between 35 and 45, minutes before they entered the targeted premises. It was established that two of the suspects are South African and three Zimbabwean nationals. One firearm and one vehicle were recovered at the scene.

Three more suspects, who were on foot at the time, fled the scene and are still at large. The police are searching for the suspects. The investigation will continue as it is believed that they are part of a larger syndicate involved in armed robberies. It was furthermore alleged that the suspects worked hand in hand with an employee of Mike’s Kitchen.

The suspects are detained at the Germiston Police Station and are expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on 19 November 2014 on charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Anyone who has information on the whereabouts of the suspects, may contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or SMS the information to Crime Line at 32211 at all hours.  All calls can be made anonymously and all information will be treated as strictly confidential.
