Tip-off from Neighbourhood Watch leads to the arrest of one suspect in possession of stolen cable

On Tuesday at 04:00 in the morning, Strand SAPS received information from the local Neighbourhood Watch of alleged theft in progress in Gustrouw Avenue, Strand. On arrival they found a man on top of the electric pole busy cutting the cable.

When the suspect noticed the police he jumped down and attempted to flee from police. Members gave chase and the 20-year-old man was subsequently found hiding in a rubbish bin in a yard. He was arrested for possession of stolen property. The cable is approximately 60 meters in length. The 20-year-old suspect will appear at Strand Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Wednesday 2014-11-05). The Station Commander of SAPS Strand Colonel Shawn KP Van Wyk thanked the community for their assistance.
