Toyota raises the bar with the new Raised Body Hilux 2.5 D-4D SRX Xtra Cab

Few companies have the kind of clout in the pick-up world that Hilux wields, especially when we’re talking workhorse models. So after pulling out all the stops with the bells-and-whistles Legend 45 package which now becomes standard fare on top-end Hilux models, Toyota turns its attention to the more utilitarian side of things with a thorough re-work (pun intended) of the Hilux 2.5 D-4D SRX.

On sale now, a new Raised Body version of the Hilux 2.5 D-4D SRX Xtra Cab replaces the previous low body version. In response to customer demand, this new Xtra Cab addresses the need for increased ride height and ground clearance, as well as improved approach and departure angles to tackle challenging terrain.  Heavy duty 16″ steel wheels complement the raised body suspension to maximise rough road performance.

Current Xtra Cab SRX New Raised Body Xtra Cab SRX
Differential Ratio 3.583 3.909
Ground Clearance 181 212
Approach angle 21 degrees 30 degrees
Departure angle 18 degrees 23 degrees
Wheels 205 / 70R 15C 205 R16C 6J

In addition, the specification of the Raised Body version has been aligned to other SRX models, matching the utilitarian nature of the vehicle and creating consistency across the product line-up. In line with its hard core aesthetics the newcomer is ‘de-chromed’ and gets practical black cladding for the door handles and outer mirrors while indoors, the SRX gets hardwearing rough-weave fabric upholstery.

The good news is the price – despite an overall last quarter price increase, the new Hilux 2.5 D-4D Xtra Cab has only increased marginally. The new retail selling price of R298 700 is a mere R5 000 premium over the outgoing model.
