Two suspects arrested after police chase and charged for illegal possession of abalone

In the early hours of Monday (24 November 2014) at about 02:30, members from Bothasig police arrested two suspects in the fight against abalone poaching.

Members were patrolling when they noticed a white Toyota Yaris from Burgundy Estate driving towards Parow. The members decided to have a closer look on the vehicle and vehicle sped off, this raised the suspicion, police gave chase as the vehicle refusing to pull over. SAPS managed to pull off the vehicle and they found 830 abalone with the value of approximately R100 000 in the boot of the vehicle.

Two suspects were arrested and charged for illegal possession of abalone and are due to appear in Goodwood court soon.
