Eight suspected drug dealers arrested in Limpopo

A multi disciplinary operation led by the Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Fanie Masemola together with crime intelligence, Tactical Response Team (TRT), the Hawks and K9 has resulted in the arrest of eight suspected drug dealers who were found in possession of nyaope and heroin worth over R100 000 in the early hours of Wednesday.

R24 000 cash was found in the possession of the suspects. A 9mm firearm with 25 live rounds, three magazines, handcuffs and three handgun holsters were found in possession of one of the suspects,a former police officer in Krugersdorp. Police also recovered an axe and two butcher knives, as well as various types of capsules which are believed to be some of the ingredients used to manufacture nyaope.

A laptop, fake CDs and DVDs plus a colour printer were also recovered. The suspects, aged between 28 and 55 will appear in the Bela Bela Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.

“We meant it when we said we will be out in full force this festive season. Drugs are very problematic and Bela Bela has been saturated with nyaope which prompted us to clean the area to ensure that we cut the supply during this festive season. Most criminals commit their crimes under the influence of drugs and we are living no stone unturned in our quest to attain a crime free society”, said Lieutenant General Fanie Masemola.

“We proved it when we arrested police officers last week for corruption, yesterday we arrested two more police officers and today we arrested another for corruption and house breaking. If we have police officers involved in the Bela Bela drug syndicate they must know that we are hot on their heels”.
