Hydraulic tools used to free trapped man after collision in Durban

An hour long intense rescue took place last night after two vehicles collided on the N3 Durban bound near the pavilion just after 10:30pm.

Rescue Care Paramedics arrived on scene to find after the initial collision one of the vehicles had left the roadway and gone up an embankment and came to rest on a boulder with the driver still inside the wreckage. Assessing the scene paramedics found the vehicle to be to unstable to extricate the driver and opted to call in the SAPS Search and Rescue unit as well as Durban Fire Department. Once they arrived rescue officials used hydraulic equipment to stabilize the vehicle and then paramedics entered the vehicle and treated the injured driver. He was then carefully extricated from the wreckage very carefully. The other driver also sustained slight injuries and was treated by Rescue Care paramedics. Both men were then transported to a nearby hospital.

At this stage it is unclear what caused the collision however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
