KZN N3 road crash leaves two dead and seventeen injured

Two people lost their lives and seventeen people were injured after two vehicles collided head-on on the N3 near Cato Ridge at around 18h00 this evening.

Exact details surrounding the cause of the accident and preceding events are unknown at this stage and will remain the subject of a police investigation. Reports from the scene indicate that the minibus was travelling towards Pietermaritzburg, when the vehicle left the roadway, crossed the centre median and collided head-on with a vehicle travelling towards Durban.

Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found the crumpled remains of the two vehicles following the crash.

Tragically a man and woman travelling in the motor vehicle lost their lives during the accident. Two children travelling in the same vehicle sustained injuries and were transported to hospital for further medical care, after receiving treatment on scene.

Fifteen occupants of the minibus sustained various injuries ranging from moderate to critical and all the patients were treated on scene before they were transported to hospital for further care.

Traffic was severely affected and will remain affected until full recovery of the vehicles have taken place.
