KZN police focused this festive season to raid illegal firearms from the criminals

In the early hours of yesterday, 4 December 2014, Chatsworth Cluster in joint efforts with National Mobile Train Unit conducted an intelligence driven operation in Matikwe, Inanda area. Members proceeded to the identified suspects’ homesteads where they found four firearms, a shotgun, three pistols and ten live rounds of ammunition. Four suspects aged between 27 and 44 were then arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The recovered firearms will be taken for ballistic testing to establish if they were used in the commission of any other crimes in the province. The arrested suspects are appearing in the Ntuzuma Magistrates’ Court today, 5 December 2014.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded the members’ good work that led to the arrest of the suspects and seizure of unlicensed firearms. “One of our focus areas this festive season is to raid illegal firearms from the criminals and arrest those found in possession of such illegal firearms and ammunition,” she said.
