Man critically injured while walking to work in Pinetown collision

Earlier this morning paramedics from KZN Emergency Medical Services and a private ambulance service treated a critically injured man in the Pinetown area,

The man, estimated to be about 34 years of age, had been struck by a motor vehicle while he was walking to work. Paramedics responded to the incident at the intersection of Crompton and Lauth streets in Pinetown.

Due to the man’s critical injuries and the traffic congestion in the area, the Department of Health’s air ambulance was called to the scene. The road was closed to make an emergency landing zone for the helicopter and the helicopter landed on the road. The medics rapidly loaded the patient into the air ambulance and the patient was airlifted to King Edward hospital, where he was handed over to a team of trauma specialists.

The exact circumstances leading up to the man being stuck by the vehicle are being investigated by the police.
