Man killed in Witkoppen collision

A man, believed to be in his fifties, was killed this afternoon and another sustained moderate injuries when a Toyota Corolla and a Jeep collided head on with each other on Witkoppen Road in Bloubosrand.

When paramedics arrived on the scene they found the driver of the Jeep with moderate injuries. He was treated on the scene and later transported by ER24 to a nearby hospital for further care. The driver of the Corolla was found still trapped in the vehicle. Sadly he sustained fatal injuries and there was nothing that paramedics could do for him.

Local fire fighters had to use hydraulic rescue equipment to free the body of the deceased from the vehicle.

It is understood that one of the vehicles veered into oncoming traffic, which resulted in the head on collision. The exact cause of the collision is not yet known. The incident was handed over to Johannesburg Metro Police for investigation.
