Operation Basadi by women in blue yields results for effective enforcement

The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General (Adv) Meshack Nogwanya is pleased with the manner in which Operation Basadi yielded results.

The women in blue in the province conducted Operation Basadi as a build up for the provincial launch of Festive Season Campaigns: Operation When Duty Calls and commemoration of 16 Days of Activism of No Violence Against Women, Children and people living disability which was launched at Philani Village in Tweefontein on the 29th of November 2014.

These fearless women were out and about in the province working diligently against the people who are reprobate in behaviour.

They managed to secure the following arrests:

•          Five suspects for murder
•          Two for rape
•          Four for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and
•          14 for assault common.

They also arrested several suspects on charges ranging from sexual assault, house robberies, malicious damage to property, drugs related crimes, illegal possession of firearms and other crimes.

A total of 136 suspects were arrested and they managed to confiscate one illegal firearm, eight rounds of ammunition, various types of drugs and other valuable items. The members in conjunction with Traffic Officials also women, issued fines to 165 motorists who violated the Road Traffic Act.

“As police in the province we congratulate the women in blue for the sterling operation. They have shown that they can go an extra mile hence the successes”, said Maj General (Adv) Nogwanya.
