Robbery suspect arrested after chase by Mitchell’s Plain police

Police in Mitchell’s Plain received a complaint of armed robbery scene at the corners of Katjiepiering and Lobelia Street, Lentegeur. On arrival, they saw a suspicious looking man running away after seeing the police vehicles. They chased after the suspect on foot and with a vehicle and with the help of the community they located him in a house in Gugulethu.

According to the information the victim had just arrived at the shop after withdrawing an undisclosed amount of money from a bank in Lansdowne. He drove in his vehicle and as he pulled up at the family business, he was confronted by three unknown suspects who arrived in a white Opel Corsa sedan, demanding his money. The complainant was pointed with a firearm.

Police members located the house of the suspects and proceeded to do a search around the property as well as inside with permission from the owner. The members searched the property and discovered a silver Taurus pistol hidden in a laundry basket in the bathroom including some cash. Inside the garage they located a parked white Opel Corsa sedan. The vehicle was tested on the chassis number and was reported hijacked on a Kleinvlei case. They also discovered a police uniform inside the cupboards.

The complainant positively identified the suspect as well as the firearm and vehicle found. One suspect, a 44 year old man was arrested and appeared in the Mitchells Plain Court on Thursday 4 December 2014.
