Seven injured when two vehicles overturned on N2 outbound near Jan Smuts in Cape Town

Seven people were injured during the early hours of this morning when two vehicles overturned on the N2 outbound near Jan Smuts in Cape Town.

Shortly before 0200 paramedics from various services arrived on the scene where they found both vehicles mangled into each other.

Five people were found scattered across the incident. It is understood that majority of them were sitting in the back of the bakkie that overturned. The injured, aged between 16 and 25, sustained various head and body injuries.

One person was found in a critical condition. It is believed that he was flung from the bakkie during the collision.

Two people from the light motor vehicle also sustained various injuries. Metro Rescue Services had to remove the roof of the vehicle to free one of the trapped occupants.

All of the patients were later transported to Grootte Schuur and New Somerset West Hospitals respectively.

The exact cause of the incident is not yet known.
