Taxi crash at intersection in Durban leaves several injured

Scores of commuters on their way home from work have been injured some seriously so after a collision at the intersection of Stanger and Argyle Roads in Durban just after 17:30 tonight.

Rescue Care paramedics arrived on scene to find total chaos. The collision occurred in the intersection and the taxi then rolled several times coming to rest on its side up Argyle Road. Most of the passengers had been ejected from the wreckage whilst it was rolling. Patients were found strewn across the roadway and sidewalk. More ambulances were called to assist with the multiple casualty scene as well as Advanced Life Support Units. One man in his forties was found to be in a critical condition and had to be placed on a manual ventilator by Rescue Care paramedics. A total of seventeen people had sustained various injuries and once all of the injured had been stabilized on scene they were transported to various Durban Hospitals for the further care that they required.

At this stage it is unclear what caused the collision however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.

Traffic was severely affected whilst emergency personal worked to clear the scene.
