Unlicensed firearms, drugs and dagga seized by Police in Nyanga

Members of the Mitchells Plain TRT confiscated four unlicensed firearms, drugs and dagga in two separate incidents in Heinz Park, Nyanga. Two firearms, a 9mm and a short gun, 32 units of dagga, 69 stoppe of dagga, 46 bankies of dagga and 69 half mandrax tablets were confiscated in Daisy Street. This was after members received information about the illegal activities from members of the publicr. A 44-year-old man was apprehended.

While the members were busy in the house of the suspects, they heard gun shots and they went to investigate. They found a man lying in the street with gunshot wounds and spotted two men carrying firearms running away from the scene. Two Z88 parabellum were confiscated from the suspects aged 24 and 29, who were also immediately arrested.

The three men are currently in custody and will appear in Athlone Magistrate Court today on charges of murder, illegal possession of unlicensed firearms and drugs. One of the suspects is also a suspect in a Nyanga murder case which occurred in October this year.

These members have saved lives which would have been lost if these culprits were not apprehended. We also thank and appreciate community members who gave information about the suspect which led to the arrests. It is only through this partnership that this scourge of crime can be won.
