Vehicle rolls injuring four on the N3 near Richmond Road in Pietermaritzburg

Four people were injured this morning, one of them critically, after a bakkie rolled multiple times on the N3 near Richmond Road in Pietermaritzburg.

When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene, they found the bakkie on its wheels down a small embankment.

On assessment of the scene, paramedics discovered four people lying around the wrecked vehicle. Three patients from the bakkie sustained minor injuries while a female patient lay in a critical condition. It was later discovered that the woman had been ejected from the vehicle and become trapped beneath it.  A member of public had freed the trapped patient before ER24s arrival.

Paramedics set out treating the patients multiple injuries which included injuries to her head, neck and legs. Once in a stable condition, she was transported to Edendale Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

The remaining patients were treated for their injuries and thereafter transported to Northdale Hospital for further observations.

Local authorities were on scene to investigate the cause of the incident.
