Vehicle search leads to arrest of 5 suspects for possession of explosives and fireams in Thaba Nchu

On Wednesday 2014-12-03 at approximately 03:30, Thaba Nchu Cluster TRT and K9 Units were mobilized after Crime Intelligence Gathering Unit provided information that there is a group of people planning to rob a chain store in the area.  Units responded and while patrolling they met a Dodge Caliber (Red) vehicle near Albert Moroka Hospital fitting the description and they stopped it.  Occupants of the vehicle were searched and two pistols with full ammunition were found in their possession, and during the vehicle search, officers found a plastic bag full of explosives, that are frequently used in the ATM bombings.  The explosives Unit was summoned to the scene and confirmed the findings.

All 5 suspects aged between 25 and 33, including a Lesotho National were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and explosives. The vehicle belongs to one of the suspect’s girlfriend.  They will all appear in the Thaba Nchu Magistrate Court soon.
