Veteran paramedic dies in road crash on Sparks Road in Sydenham, Durban

A veteran Rescue Care paramedic was killed in a road traffic accident on Sparks Road in Sydenham, Durban this afternoon.

Three vehicles and a truck collided in a horrific accident just after 12:30pm. Four other people were injured one critically so as well in the accident. SAPS Search and Rescue and Durban Fire Department used the jaws of life to free the injured from the wreckage. All of the injured were transported to various Durban hospitals for the further care that they required.

The staff member, who cannot be named until his family has been notified, was off-duty at the time of the crash which involved multiple vehicles. He was badly injured and died at the scene.

The paramedic had a distinguished record of service and was loved by his colleagues. The Rescue Care family is devastated by this sudden loss and we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family.

This is a very difficult time for all of us, especially is family, and we ask that they are afforded privacy to grieve.
