Four killed, six injured in Free State collision

Four people have been killed, including a five-year-old boy, and six others injured this evening when three vehicles collided on the R57 near Sasolburg in the Free State.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene and found three wrecked vehicles spread across the road. All three vehicles had sustained a considerable amount of damage.

On assessment of the scene, paramedics found the bodies of three lifeless males in one of the vehicles. Unfortunately all three men had sustained fatal injuries in the collision.

A man from another vehicle was found trapped inside his vehicle and was in a critical condition. Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life to free the patient. Once freed, paramedics found that the patients vital signs had diminished. CPR and advanced life support was performed on the patient, unfortunately, after 20 minutes, he was declared dead.

Six other patients were found on scene with injuries ranging from minor to serious. Paramedics treated the patients for their injuries and thereafter transported them to various hospitals for further treatment.

The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
