A man has been killed and another injured this morning after a truck collided with another vehicle towing a trailer on the N11 outside of Newcastle, KwaZulu Natal.
ER24 paramedics arrived on scene and found a light motor vehicle with a trailer blocking one section of the road. A taxi that had been on the trailer lay crushed on the side of the road. A truck lay on its side on the side of the road well alight.
Fire services began battling the blaze while paramedics began their treatment of the truck driver who had sustained only minor injuries.
Once the blaze had been extinguished, paramedics discovered that a passenger in the truck had unfortunately been burned to death.
Fortunately no-one from the light motor vehicle had sustained any injuries.
The injured truck driver was transported to Madadeni Hospital for further observations.
It is believed that the driver of the light motor vehicle had lost control of his vehicle, causing him to swerve in front of the truck.
Local authorities were on scene to begin their investigations.
