Bloemhof: The police received a complaint of house breaking and theft at a house in Bloemhof after the complainant heard a noise of a car hitting a tree outside his house on Thursday, 29 January 2015 at about 04:00. The complainant also informed the members of the local neighbourhood watch, after seeing the suspect running away from his car. The watch-members searched around the neighbourhood and saw a half-naked male running on the N12 road. They gave chase and recovered some expensive jewellery and VW Polo car keys from the suspect, in the presence of the police, who was also quick on the scene. The complainant identified his belongings and the suspect was arrested for house breaking and theft and placed in the back of the police van.
The police drove to the police station. When they opened the police van to take the suspect to the cells, they found the suspect hanged himself with a trouser waist lace. An inquest was opened and it will be investigated by IPID. (Independent Police Investigative Directorate).
